Dermal Fillers
As we age the skin loses natural volume, causing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Dermal fillers can be used to counteract the effects of aging, adding lost volume, smoothing lines and enhancing facial features. At Finer Lines Aesthetics we use premium brands of dermal filler including Teosyal and Juvederm.
How It Works
Dermal filler treatments are a fast, safe and an effective way to soften the effects of the aging process and sculpt facial features. The treatment involves a series of small injections performed by one of our experienced nurses, where a synthetic form of hyaluronic acid is injected into the target area, this plumps the skin immediately, lifting your face and rejuvenating your appearance.
Consultation
A free no obligation consultation is offered before treatment to discuss your needs and suitability for treatment with one of our experienced nurse prescribers, at this appointment we will address your particular areas of concerns and together we will form a medical or cosmetic treatment plan. Should you choose to go ahead, subject to a full medical history, you can have treatment on the same day.
Treatment Areas
The most common areas of treatment are:
Cheeks
Chin
Frown (creases between the eyes)
Tear troughs (under the eyes)
Nasolabial lines (nose to mouth)
Marionette lines (mouth to chin)
Lips
Smokers lines around the mouth
Fine lines anywhere on the face.
Other areas can be treated, this will be discussed at your consultation. There are many different fillers, depending on the area to be treated, ranging from hydrating fillers which are perfect for the skin, smooth fillers perfect for the lips or thicker fillers ideal for adding volume to the cheeks, often a combination of fillers can be used to achieve the perfect results.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe, does it hurt?
Here at Finer Lines Aesthetics, we only use premium brand Fillers with a proven safety record and years of medical research so you can be assured they are safe.
Numbing cream will be used, if required, to ensure the treatment is as comfortable as possible, with most of our patients reporting they are pleasantly surprised at how pain free the procedure is. The dermal fillers also contain a local anaesthetic, adding to your level of comfort.
On rare occasions dermal filler can cause an issue with one of the many blood vessels that run through our face, in this instance the dermal filler will need to be dissolved, however as registered nurses we are trained in dealing with this should it occur and have the products required in our medical clinic.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are uncommon but as with all treatments can occur and include, tenderness, bruising, swelling and redness. In most case side effects are mild and usually settle within a few days. We advise you to avoid anti-inflammatories (Ibuprofen, aspirin) for at least 7 days before treatment, unless this is prescribed for you for a medical reason, this helps to reduce the risk of bruising, Alcohol within the 48 hours before treatment can also increase this risk. You should not have dermal filler treatment 2 weeks before of 3 weeks after a vaccine (including the Covid vaccine)
How long does it take to work?
Results are instant, however as there may be some swelling the full effects will be seen in 1-2 weeks, often more than one treatment is required to achieve optimum results, this will be discussed at your consultation. We will only use a maximum of 1ml of dermal filler in your lips at one appointment, as this area is more likely to swell and lead to compromise of the blood vessel, however other areas can be treated with more product at your appointment.
What about aftercare advice?
We ask you not to touch the treated area or apply make up for 24 hours as this introduce bacteria to any open injection sites, the area may be swollen, tender and bruised, cold compresses and pain killers can be taken if required. We advise you not to have any aesthetics procedures carried prior to an important event and to allow sufficient time for any side effects to settle.
Treatment to the lips can feel hard, uneven and lumpy for the first week or so and it’s important to remember this will not be the final result, if you have had cold sores in the past the injections may cause a recurrence and cream, or tablets may be required, we can prescribe treatments for this if required.
Dermal filler treatments generally last between 3 – 12 months, depending on the area being treated, your age, lifestyle, muscle activity, and skin type. Fillers are broken down by the body’s natural process.
Aftercare is discussed at your appointment and full aftercare advice is emailed to you following each appointment.
