Medical Micro-Needling Skin Pen
Microneedling or collagen induction therapy provides advanced treatment that stimulates the skin to regenerate and repair itself naturally and safely, creating younger, healthier, brighter smoother skin. Here at Finer Lines Aesthetics, we use the SkinPen, a FDA, CE Class 11 medical grade devices to achieve excellent results with patient safety in mind.
How It Works
The SkinPen has a sterile single use cartridge containing 14 state of the art needles that glide over the skin to produce thousands of micro channels into the dermis of the skin, as the needles enter the skin vertically this avoids any tearing of the tissue often associated with traditional dermarollers. The treatment causes inflammation and triggers a ‘wound healing response’.

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it safe, does it hurt?
A topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the face before treatment meaning discomfort is minimal, treatment takes approximately 20-30 minutes depending on areas being treated.
SkinPen is an ultrasonically sealed pen, with a disposable single patient use cartridge, with a lockout feature ensuring the same cartridge can’t be reused, a sheath is also applied to the pen adding another layer of protection against cross contamination meaning your treatment is safe.
The SkiPen has an accurate precision depth dial, allowing the depth of the needles to be targeted to the treatment concern and individualised as required.
As medical professionals we are allowed treat to depths of 2.5mm, perfect for scars and body treatments.
How long does it take to work?
Whilst some patients choose to have one off treatments, to enable the best results, it’s important to commit to a course of treatments to enable the skin to remodel, best results are seen with at least 3 to 6 treatments, spaced 4-6 weeks apart.
Once you have achieved the results you desire, maintenance treatments can be had as often as needed.
There is a continuous and progressive improvement over time in the overall skin smoothness and firmness, the complexion becomes brighter especially when combined with medical grade skincare regimes. Results depend on the individual.
Are there any side effects?
Side effects are very rare. After the treatment there will be redness to the treated area, this usually resolves within a few days. Occasionally bruising can occur and the treatment can cause a cold sore if you are prone to them.
What about aftercare advice?
Immediately after your treatment you will look like you have sunburn and your skin may feel warm and tight, this normally subsides after a few hours, redness may last a few days and is a normal effect of the treatment.
We will apply cream before you leave the clinic and provide you with products to take home and use for the following few days, you can use tepid water to cleanse the face/area for the following 48 hours and dry gently, we recommend you don’t apply make up for 12 hours and avoid the use of any abrasive products. It is important to use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB sunscreen of at least SPF 30 for a minimum of 4 weeks post treatment even on winter days.
Aftercare is discussed at your appointment and full aftercare advice is emailed to you following each appointment.
